What if someone close to you was crippled with pain, you would want them to have access to an effective source of pain relief. But what if it was illegal because it was considered dangerous? Would you want them to use it anyway to help ease the pain? Or would you advise against it, and recommend an alternative treatment? Medical Marijuana has been a major controversial issue in the past couple years. Supporters state that "any ill person who could benefit from marijuana should be able to use it" (3). But others argue against the lack of evidence of the actual relief that it provides. Is marijuana a legitimate and effective source of pain relief? Or is it a pass to freedom to avoid the laws regarding the possession and use of marijuana?
             The debate over whether marijuana should be used for medicinal purposes is receiving more and more attention each year. Those who oppose, view marijuana as a source which leads to crime and addiction, and feel that instead of selectively allowing it that we should eliminate it entirely. While others, on the opposite side, are arguing that medical assistance is needed for those who have been recommended by a physician. Throughout most of early history, the United States enforced no known drug laws. Most drugs, including marijuana, were often recommended to help rid those of the symptoms of many ailments. Today the food and drug act limits us to safer ingredients and remedies to help assist in riding yourself of pain and any other unwanted symptoms. Medical marijuana is becoming a largely discussed issue, which is argued from both sides. Supporters argue that many benefits can arise from legalizing medical marijuana, and would
             help provide many with alternative and safer treatment facilities and options. Those who oppose argue that it will only provide more opportunities for drug use to increase within our population, as well as thwart our drug enforcement policies.
