You have your whole life to make money and work. For the four years you spend in high
school, working shouldn't be a part of your busy schedule. Book reports, tests, and preparing
yourself for the SAT's should be consuming most of your time. I'm not saying, sit inside all day
and study, I'm just saying that while you're in school, making money can wait. Working hard in
high school will make it easier for you in college and help you get into the college of your
choice. I know a lot of people look back at high school and wish they would have studied a
little harder and got better grades.
Most students working in high school have jobs that consume a lot of their free time and
keep you until late. So the time you get home from work, you're too tired to study for that
chemistry test you have tomorrow, so you say to yourself, I'll just cram in homeroom
tomorrow and hit the sack tonight. When last night instead of sweeping the Pizza Hut floor for
five bucks an hour, you should have been studying for that test.
But some high school students would have to disagree with my opinion that
students shouldn't work. They feel that working is not really an option, but necessary. No job
means no money and without money you cant afford insurance, gas, car payments, that shirt
you've been eyeing up at the mall, gifts for your friends, I could go on forever. High school
students want to be independent and be making money on their own. They don't want to
have to bum money from their parents every time they go to see a movie with their friends.
Others who would argue my statement that high school students shouldn't work would
be students who have parents who can afford to dish out the extra money to their children.
