I. Paul McLaughlin wrote in his article titled, Stop Child Abuse Now , about the tragic story of him and his twin sister Paula.
A. They both were severely tormented for 18 yrs.
B. They were put on top of gas stoves by their mother, who then turned it on to severely burn her two children
C. Paul's mother would then break their toys and tell their father they did it just so they could get smacked in the face.
D. Paul says the horrible acts committed towards them by their mother were endless and till this day, he still doesn't know why.
II. Paul and his sister were but two more victims of the serious case of child abuse.
I The issues of child abuse affects all of us.
A. Jim Hopper says in his July 24, 1998 article, Child Abuse: Statistics,
Research, and Resources, that approximately one in six boys is sexually abused before age 16. Economically, it affects us because it increases the cost of trying to help take care of another mistreated child.
B. Socially, it affects the child because they feel that since they couldn't trust
their parents or guardian to bring them up in a safe environment then, they figure, who can they trust, and will mostly likely become very antisocial
C. Psychologically, it affects the child because they figure when it's time for
them to have children that abusing them when they do something wrong would be the right thing to do.
II. Clearly the problems of child abuse needs to be discussed.
I. This discussion will provide information on child abuse.
A. I shall discuss the causes of child abuse.
B. I shall discuss what is being done to prevent and control child abuse.
