             In chapter 11, Intercultural communication I found that many instances in my life related to the stereotypes and prejudice section.
             After reading the paragraphs on stereotypes. I couldn't help but think back to my high school days. Sadly I stereotyped people just as much as the next person. It wasn't even intended to be something done to mean it was just the way to survive in high school. It was easier to put people into a nice little clump instead of having to get to know them individually.
             It was also easier on myself to know I belonged to a group I didn't care if I was being stereotyped. I felt safer knowing that this was my group and this is where I belonged. The definition of stereotypes is a generalized second hand belief that provide conceptual biases from which we make sense out of what goes on around us, whether they are accurate or fit the circumstances. This definition fits my high school to a tee. Thankfully I have learned that generalizing people like that was not the way I wanted to be I thought it was a part of survival in high school, but I didn't like the person I had become from it. However, I find myself once again caught up in the problems of stereotyping. My boyfriend is in a fraternity and I just can't stand it when I hear I hate so and so because he is a Pike or an ATO. And then he wonders why we get in argument over why I don't want to join the Greek life. Whatever happened to getting to know someone from them not what group they belong to, but I guess everyone will come around in their own time.
             When I read the paragraph about prejudice I also learned that maybe not intentionally, but occasionally I am apart of prejudices. I couldn't count the number of times a friend made a racist joke and in my head I always think that's not funny, but I never say anything. Or made comments like that's gay when someone does s
