In other words, these men felt nature established a playing field that everyone was equal on. Nature was revered as the force of all power. These same men felt nature provided a universal purpose and that man wanted to be in harmony with nature thus, Descartes concluded "I think therefore, I am." The enlightened men of this period felt the process in which nature kept everything in balance was astonishing such as Isaac Newton's Principia Mathematica.
