Why is it difficult to buy American

It is very surprising to find that our most patriotic symbol, the American flag, is often made in countries besides our own. At the beginning of the war on terror, Wal-mart was forced to take certain flags off their shelves because, ironically, they were made in Afghanistan. Even today, many of our flags are made in foreign countries, and in a recent study, 84% of people polled about the issue said it "distresses them." Buying American is not only extremely difficult for most people, but has been described as racist and discriminatory. With extremely cheap labor in China, Vietnam, and other third-world countries, countless numbers of companies have shifted production to other countries and minimized jobs in America. In addition to this, much of the labor in the US has been given to immigrants, which has technically kept production in our country, but much of those funds are funneled back to Mexico and other Latin-American countries to support families back home. In today's global country, it is hard to find products that are exclusively US made. These laborers in other countries have been labeled the "enemy" in many buy American campaigns. For example, two workers for the same company, one here at home, and one overseas have been pitted against each other in the buy American struggle. This has created much animosity towards Asians. Importations from other countries, such as Canada and Great Britain are not usually frowned upon, but our rooted racism against Asians has caused a great struggle between our economy and theirs.
