According to the Merriam Webster dictionary Freedom means a quality or state of being free; the absence of necessity, coercion, or constraint in choice or action; liberation from slavery or restraint or from the power of another. Bonnie Parker and Mona do have characteristics of this definition of freedom by the absence of necessity, coercion or constraint in their choices of actions; or do they? Both women in these films demonstrate aspects of freedom and the need for freedom. Are the lives they led for the search and the rewards of freedom fulfilled? Some say yes others no.
             From the very beginning of Bonnie and Clyde you see Bonnie trapped in a life of routine and poverty. Working for every penny and having restrictions that were expected to be upheld. The overall romanticized idea of Clyde's mystery reeled Bonnie into the idea of freedom. Freedom of a new lifestyle free of routine and poverty promised by Clyde but, was never upheld. So is the Freedom definition upheld in the last months of her life? I say maybe. To some extent Bonnie did have freedom to live her life without the constraints of the era and roles that were bestowed on women of that time. Just as Bonnie had her new freedom she quickly had now restraints in her decisions However Clyde seemed to replace the power over Bonnie that the society once had. As soon as bonnie embarked on a new life of freedom, a life of running and deceit was quickly followed. "For they know they can never be free" (Bonnie Parker). After killing a police officer a line had been crossed in the freedom of Bonnie and Clyde. From this point on they would be hunted as murderers once they crossed that line they couldn't turn back from it. Bonnie left one life of constraints for a life of freedom that she never truly received.
