In the United States of America, every four years there is an election to determine who will be the chosen leader and representative of the nation. With each election, there are a certain number of candidates who are running for the honor of presidency. The widely known parties are the Republicans and the Democrats. With eighteen presidential representatives to date, the Republican Party has been the most popular in the many years of the United States government. The birth of the Republican Party is traced back to the early 1850's, where anti-slavery activists and persons who thought that government should grant western territories to settlers for free. The first declared meeting occurred on July 6th of 1854 in the city hall of Jackson, Michigan. Active Republicans became an official political party in 1856, when Representative John C. Fremont was nominated for presidency. Though, they were not an established party until Abraham Lincoln became the first Republican in office by winning the election of 1860.
             Many adequate descriptions of the Republican philosophy have been declared by experts; however, from our point of view, the Republican philosophy is given in one word: liberty. The Republican Party commonly believes that individual freedom is the trademark of the American success story. The free will of Americans to pass their own judgment, and to utilize their freedom of life, relatively free, to an extent, from legislative or other interference, has caused us to become a symbol of hope around the globe. We, as Americans, are so blessed that we sometimes forget what others have endured, and the weight they continue to bear, in oppressive regimes around the world. Socialistic and progressive thought by other parties often result in excessive governmental taxation, governmental control, and plain coercion.
