k in the South was created when Fourth National Bank and First National Bank merged together. Fourth and First had integral ties to virtually every industry in Nashville at the time, along with the city's political figures. By the end of the Great War in 1918, the bank controlled around 40 percent of all deposits in Nashville. At the same time as Fourth and First was solidifying its grasp on Nashville and its economy, the Nashville Trust Company was dealing with older, wealthier Nashvillians.
