Initially it was for the money and a gap filler during the summer months. The money I have found out since is not a lot but having plunged myself into the course I am seeing the values of this important position.
             It is a challenge no question about that, the idea of reaching out to foreign students and helping them to get a better understanding, an improvement in their spoken and written language has now re kindled an awarness that I had in me. Having travelled the world, USA, Eastern Europe, Australia, Nepal I fully understand just how useful English is. It is the common language of communication, it has replaced French as the business language.
             Trying to install confidence in students is a huge task, my existing career as part time teacher and coach working with young people has helped to understand the need for this confidence. Teaching is not merely information or knowledge, but mainly an expression of values and attitudes. What teachers usually get back from their students is what they themselves have brought to the teaching-learning process
             While I am helping the student develop, I too am learning, not just my own language but am gaining an understanding of the visitor's culture as well.
             My difficult experience with learning our own native language has been overshadowed by the methods used in the TEFL mode. It's a different way of reaching out to the students, more effective than the 'old' style we have been used to.
