Chivalry is still a part of today's society. The idea of respect for women still remains in today's society. Women have gained respect since the Middle Ages, when the idea of chivalry first began. Men are on their best behavior when in the presence of women. Women have more opportunities in today's society than in the past. Men will go out of their way to express their respect for women. These are some ways that men show their respect for women. Men show respect toward women by acting like gentlemen when women are present. When a man is hanging out with his male friends, he isn't worried about his manners and will do things that might offend women. A man would avoid, for example, swearing, burping, or farting. Men also try to look and smell nice for women. When a man is taking a woman out he will usually dress nicely, wear cologne and comb his hair. If he is hanging with the guys he will usually roll out of bed, throw on some sweats and leave. A man's behavior shows his respect for women.
             More opportunities are available to women in today's society. Woman use to be thought of as helpless without men, but now there are many independent women in the world. A woman's role use to be to stay home, cook, clean, and raise the children. The man was the breadwinner and owned the property. Now women are independent and have equal job opportunities. Many women work to support themselves and the women who stay home to be housewives are not looked down upon. Women have the choice to live whatever lifestyle they want. Men go out of their way to show respect for women. If a man sees a woman doing any kind of physical labor, he offers to help. If a woman has a flat tire on the side of the road it is likely that a man will stop and change the tire for her. Men will help with jobs that can be done without the help of a man.
