In the novel Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry, by Mildred Taylor, there are many issues with which the Logan family is faced including greed and hatred. They have to work toward respect and maintaining self-esteem. The novel emphasizes the injustice of racism as they affect all aspects of the Logan family. On reading Taylor's novel, it becomes evident that the experience of racism by the family brings them closer together. The parents are very aware of the evils of racism. One child refuses to accept a used book; they express resistance to racism, and they develop methods of fighting insults.

             This is shown when Chester (lil man), the youngest son of the family refuses to take a book given to him by his teacher, Ms. Crocker. The book was second hand and in very poor condition. Chester's disturbance brought the family together. The mother understood why her child refuses to accept the used book. Instead of punishing him, she made efforts to improve the condition and appearance of the book.
             The Logan family believes in equal opportunity for everyone, especially their family. The family shows their resistance to racism by not accepting it. The Wallace store is the only store in the neighborhood and is owned by a white man. Miss.
