Violence in Canada vs. America

Have you ever asked yourself why is it that Canadians hear about most of the crime in America, but the Americans never hear about any crime in Canada? Canadian cities have been traditionally safer and less vulnerable to "crime waves" than American neighbors due to our extensive police force and gun control laws. The American constitution grants the people the right to bare arms, and this has made it possible for U.S criminals to obtain firearms more rapidly than our counterparts in Canada.
Someone once said that Canadians are not "doers" They're "observers". I think this is certainly true. They keep a low profile and they don't want to upset other countries. They just want to work and hope they don't ruffle anyone's feathers. That they are "observers" is probably the biggest difference between Canadians and Americans. On the other hand America has the most powerful military. Many Americans see no problem with carrying guns or waging war on other countries.
I did a little research of my own at home. What I found out was astonishing to me. Murder rates are at least three times lower in Canada than in the United States. In 1999, Canadian's murder rate was 1.8 per 100,000 populations. In the same year the United States was 5.7 per 100,000 populations.
Canadians turns out are just like Americans in certain aspects of life, they boogie to Britney Spears, watch the Simpson's, and flock to the Matrix Reloaded, but still embrace values very different than Americans. Americans are becoming more patriarch, racist, xenophobic, violent, and prone to conspicuous consumption. This is opposite of what is happening in Canada Despite close economic and culture ties to the United States. In almost every social value, Canadians were headed in the opposite direction than Americans.
