There was once a guy who had a computer, which contained access to many important files and large sums of money. He did not have adequate security so his computer was hacked and all the important files and all passwords to the bank accounts stolen and then obliterated from his computer, his address book was also copied and destroyed. Within the next few weeks, everyone in his address book suffered similar problems. What happened to his computer? A Hacker happened to his computer, a hacker and his infiltration program called a Trojan horse. Though some may say hackers and spy programs and Trojans are a good way of keeping up to date with computer security and that ad ware programs benefit people who are not willing to pay for programs, I believe that the hacker programs, spy ware, and ad ware should be illegal, or closely controlled.
             Letting hackers practice and hone their skills on simple and less offensive programs and procedures can lead to more serious and more problematic offences.
             For the past few years the FBI "pursues hacker cases to discourage kids from turning to more serious crimes." (FBI 1) If the kids were let to roam free, they would be pulling money out of banks with out even entering the bank itself. Gifted teens could bankrupt hundreds of business by stealing their accounts, or corrupting files. It is also a "felony in the United states and most other countries" (Q&A 1) to "hack" or place ad ware/spy ware programs on computers without warning the operator that the programs are being installed. Also "any attack is a felony" (Q&A 1) and all offenders would and will be prosecuted.
             The hackers and their ad ware/spy ware programs also deprive countless people of their privacy. The hacker and/or the programs "could be used to steal data and monitor a user from another location."
