"The fair is coming up, O boy I can't wait!" That was once what I would say to my mother when I was just a youngin. I'm older now but still look forward to the fair just as much as I used to. There are so many thing to do and so much good food to eat. Is there really any wonder why every small town pulls together to put on such a great event? I don't think so, its just one of those things that just make cense.
             It takes a lot of effort and volunteering to organize and plan for the fair. With many benefits for the time it takes to do. It's a great way to bring new people to town. People come out to enter in anything from live stock classes to fruits and vegetables or arts and crafts. It's a great way for the people of Shoal Lake and surrounding area to exhibit their talents and fine produce. And in some cases get a reward for doing what they love. There is also the reward of having everyone from town see what you have accomplished and where your interests lie. And there is nothing better then the feeling you get when you find out that your fair art or your vegetable or your cattle were chosen the winners for the day! It's a feeling I wouldn't give up for anything!
             What's not to love, the day starts off with a pancake breakfast, complete with breakfast sausages, coffee, juice and a warm smile from the generous volunteers. You can eat till you bust its just that good! Not long after your done eating you'd better find a good spot because the parade will be starting shortly. The parade is always a sure thing to draw a big crowd. Nearly all the businesses in town enter a float to show there support and get some cheap advertising. The parade is one of the favorites of many children, the costumes are great and the candy is even better!
