Abortion

             Life is centered on choices. They affect everything. So when a woman is faced with a problem that will entirely change her future, should she not be able to choose what she wants to do without discrimination? Pregnancy is a problem for some women and abortion should be an available option. Situations come up when abortion may be the only answer for her.
             There are few women more desperate for a way out of pregnancy than those who were victims of rape or incest. If these women were wealthy, they could afford an abortion, for those who are poor do not have the option. In such cases the government, through Medicaid, should make abortions available to the poor (Trager 194). If the women are too poor to afford an abortion, there is no way that they will be able to support a child the way it deserves. Even though it kills human life, abortion is, in fact, the moral choice to make when would-be mothers ascertain that their present circumstances do not enable them to raise a would-be child (Roleff 25). Another reason to choose to abort a pregnancy is if the would-be mother is too young to raise a child. The pregnancy rate among minors in the United States is very high with teenagers accounting for thirty percent of all abortions (Trager 160).
             There are many special circumstances that can come up to make a would-be mother consider abortion instead of birth. Minors must have parental consent to get an abortion. Yet, some young women cannot involve their parents because they come from homes where violence or emotional abuse are present or because their pregnancies are the result of incest ("Young Women"). Not only minors are the victims of rape, adult women have also been victims. In that case the pregnancy is an unwanted burden and abortion may be the best choice.
