There was a boy/a very strange/enchanted boy/they say he wandered very far,very far/over land and sea/a little shy and sad of eye/but very wise was he."
             This boy, who had no more than eighteen years, was born in a wealthy family. His name was Thom. His mother and father had died when Thom was only a baby, leaving him alone, only raised by an aunt. In spite of his misfortune, Thom had a lot of qualities; he was bright, had a good heart, and he always knew how to make himself helpful. But, one thing Thom did not have: beauty. He was hideous. This was the result of an evil Fatal Sister, who had cursed him at birth to be very bright and in the same time very ugly, and to become beautiful only when a princess from a distant kingdom would fall in love with him. Only his parents knew this secret, but they were no longer alive in order to reveal it to him.
             One day, while he was reading, Thom found in the book an epistle. He oppened it carefully and started to read outloud:"Our dearest Thom. If you have found this letter it means that we are no longer alive. We must reveal you an awful secret. When you were born, an evil person cursed you...........we really hope you will fiind the power to forgive us. Mother and father." Thom was astouned. "I can`t believe my eyes", he said; "I will go and seek for that princess, no matter how far away she is, no matter who she is. I`m sure she will fall in love with me, i know she is a good princess, she must be." Full of hope, Thom took some of his books, some clothes, kissed his aunt goodbye and left.
             After wandering almost two years, searching for his saviour, and not finding anyone willing to help him, rejected for his ugliness by everyone, he decided to give up and go back home. As he was walking, sad but resigned, he saw something written on a placard, that was hanging on the walls of a castle:
