This is the question asked in one of my favorite stories I have read recently was a short by Brian Schlender, entitled "For the Children- Traveling Man", written on August 24, 2004. This story relates so closely to my life and any young persons life when they ask themselves "What else is out there, and is it right for me?" For the most part this is a pretty straight foreword composition, without a lot of deep symbolism to sit and ponder about. For me, there is more to the story because it involves me. I am not a fan of his work simple because of this fact, or the fact that I grew up with this individual. The story speaks to me in the same way that authors like Jack Kerouac, and Hunter S. Thompson. They were both part of the Gonzo journalism movement. I obtained this document before it was sent off to press at Indiana University. Brian and I both being writers, we send each other our work for a simple critic, and analysis. I write more about things that have happened in my life and the people around me, he writes about new events and inspired me to write more into my movie scripts about these new found events. The story makes references to cannibals; I think he refers to these people as cannibals because they feed off of others using them mentally and physically for their own benefits. I would be more comfortable calling them all parasites. One of the other references he makes, that tells the reader about himself is, "an angry Christian God" showing his obvious non-belief in Christianity. Besides being confused about religion, and direction, he is also confused about why he is actually traveling. This writer shows himself as one, humble to call average college students geniuses, (he himself being an average college student), then going on to call the waitress inbred in a superior way.
