Mankind is savage at heart

             In his novel Lord of the Flies, William Golding efficiently uses a group of children whose plane has crushed on an island away from civilization and adults to demonstrate the fact that man is savage at heart. He explains that if there's no control over that evil part of human nature it could be devastating. The main theme of this story is that without law enforcement and without obeying the rules, peace and order in a society will not remain for long. This passage is very significant in supporting this theme and in showing that the disagreements between individuals can lead to troubles and divide the unity in parts. At the same time this very part of the novel is clear in supporting another element of the theme which states that not every single one in an evil society approves of the actions and evilness of that particular society. We should not judge someone according to the world in which one lives. Not everyone is necessarily savage and bad, however without rules and a force to control the cruel intentions, most people tend to go wild and do whatever makes them feel superior to others.
             This passage starts right after Jack leaves Ralph and the whole group. As he leaves he announces that he'll hunt for meat and that he will have fun instead of rules. He says that whoever wants can join him. This smart move from Jack encouraged most of the boys to follow him. This is the considerable part that shows the unity of boys breaks apart because Ralph has no power to enforce his logical and politically correct rules and make everyone obey them.
             Jack establishes his own party and tribe. He claims leadership saying; "We'll hunt. I'm going to be chief." At this point Jack knows that he is the only qualified person for being the chief, for all the other kids are much younger than he is and they don't really know the depth of the matter.
