Throughout time, there has been many different types of athletes who express their success in different ways. Back in the older days, athletes were very low-key about their many achievements, whereas in today's world, if someone sets a record you are going to know about it, because of the attention that they draw to themselves. A very good example of this is between two players that are in the same sport, play the same position, and had almost the same success are Bob Hayes in the 1960's and Terrell Owens in the present day. Back in the 1960's Bob Hayes was a very good Wide Receiver, and one of the fastest men ever to live. He won the Olympic Gold Medal in the 100 meters in 1964 and did so by tying the world record in that event. If you go around and ask 100 people if they knew who Bob Hayes was, you would probably get about 10 people who actually know who he is. He won the Super Bowl in 1972 while he was a member of the Dallas Cowboys and he is still the only person in history to win a gold medal and a Super Bowl ring. Teams would be afraid to cover Hayes because he could just blow right by them with his speed, but could also make sharp cuts on his routes, which caused mass confusion for the defensive coordinators at the time. He was the main reason why teams now play zone defense, instead of man-to-man, on the receivers that are very fast. During his 11- year NFL career (10 with Dallas,1 with San Fran) Hayes finished with 71 Touchdown catches, an average of 20 yards per catch and three trips to the Pro Bowl. However, he is unknown to many people, not because of his playing talent, but because he didn't go out every Sunday and taunt other players, or do stupid dances after he scored a Touchdown, he just went out and did his job, which was to play football, and play it well.
