John Proctor-tragic hero

             Was John Proctor's decision to die and become a tragic hero, the right one? Some reader's may have altered opinions, but it is clear that John Proctor serves as the voice of honesty and goodness in The Crucible. The definition of a tragic hero is a protagonist, who has flaws and weaknesses, but discovers a grand scheme in society, which in return leads to self acknowledgment and acceptance. The sequence of events in the novel indicates how John Proctor's character and moral values empower him to become a tragic hero. John Proctor grows from a sinner to a tragic hero by overcoming his external struggles, struggles with society, and internal struggles
             A tragic hero should not be notably righteous but have at least one major flaw or fault that can not be corrected. John Proctor was a man with good morals and an honest personality, yet he made a big mistake. This mistake included him committing adultery, having an affair with Abigail Williams. Due to this event, external struggles between Abigail Williams and Elizabeth Proctor were created. It is not clear what lead John Proctor to having an affair with Abigail Williams, but perhaps it is because Elizabeth Proctor was a very demanding and challenging woman, which in return caused their marriage to fall apart. Abigail Williams, who mistakes John Proctor's sex for true love, wanted John to leave Elizabeth and marry her. However, John realized that he had made a consequential mistake by having this affair, and told Abigail that there relationship can no longer exist. After hearing what John said, Abigail became angry and disheartened, but was still convinced that she would be with John one day. When Mary Warren claimed that she saved Elizabeth's life, because she was accused in court, Elizabeth finally realizes that Abigail wanted her dead. John Proctor reassures Elizabeth and says,
