             A comparison and contrast of written text with film.
             There are numerous similarities and differences between the text and the video form of The Cherry Orchard by Anton Chekhov. The similarities between the two works include the accurate representation of the characters as well as the precise depiction of the scenery. The differences between the text and the video include the addition of scenes in the film, character portrayal, and the difference of moods during scenes in the movie.
             The comparisons between the text and film include representation of the characters as well as scenery. In the text Varya is said to have been adopted and in the film she does not resemble her family members physically. Anya is expressed as a young girl who is very pretty and in the film the actress is a young woman who is attractive. Also, Firs is depicted as an elderly man who mumbles frequently. Accordingly in the film, Firs is very old and slow moving, and mutters frequently. The cherry orchard in the film is massive as well as unlike anything else on has seen before just as it is described in the text. Additionally, the scene at the gazebo on the property is depicted as it was in the text with details such as a picnic blanket and benches.
             The differences in the film begin immediately with the addition of the scene of the family in France attempting to bring their mother home. Another scene which is added is the auction where the cherry orchard is purchased by Lopahin. Another difference between the two works is that in the movie Dunyasha and Yasha seemed to be part of the family, whereas is the text they were described as the "help." Lastly, a further discrepancy is the scene where the family finds out that Lopahin had purchased the cherry orchard. In the text the family appears to accept the news and begin to cope, while in the film the family breaks down in a state of distress.
