Later in the story, Huang was caught for the crime of homosexuality. He was sent to a mental hospital where the doctor said, "he could not be cured because being a homosexual is in his mind" (Jin 93). I believe it was impossible for Huang to be heterosexual because a person cannot just change the way he thinks. I think Huang's feelings for men cannot be changed because a person cannot stop himself from liking someone. No matter how hard he would have tried he would never be able to change the way he feels.
             Writer of "The Bridegroom," Ha Jin was born in Manchuria, China, which is now called Liaoning (Christensen). "He was born in 1956" (Bricklebank). Since "Ha Jin's parents were military doctors," he and his family had to travel many times (Smith).
             The Cultural Revolution started in 1966, which made Jin miss four years of school (Christensen). While the colleges were closed during the Cultural Revolution, Jin began to follow the English learner's program on the radio (Bricklebank). He was about 20 years old when he started to listen to the learner's program (Dark). The reason he started listening to the English learner's program was because he did not want to fall behind in his studying. As he became more interested in the program, he started to enjoy reading (Dark).
             Even though he was only allowed to read at night, he still found some time to read books (Smith). When he was in the army, he was only allowed to read revolutionary works (Smith).
