Your yard sale inventory is living right under your nose. The first step is to find it. In the weeks before your yard sale, scour closets and cupboards, bookcases and basements for yard sale items. A good rule is to discard anything that you haven't used in more than 6 months. Also include items that you have put into storage, if you can't get to it than you must not be using it. Never overlook items because you think that they will not sell, this includes broken jewelry, tarnished utensils, broken furniture, jars of nuts and bolts, old worn clothing, or even half-burned candles. Remember, what is your junk is someone else's treasure. People dissemble broken items for their parts. People collect the strangest things. The worst that can happen is you won't sell, so you have nothing to lose. Make sure you clean all the items you have chosen to sell. They are more likely to sell than dirty items. Also consider setting items up such as a crib or bed for display, this way it is more noticeable to those who are just driving by scanning for certain items.
             After you have decided on the items you are going to sell, you will need to price them. If you are not sure on how much to charge for an item, many people use the Internet as a source of pricing. Instead of separate prices on items, group many items and charge the same price. For instance: have a table designated for certain amounts. If you have to price things separately use removable stickers or masking tape that is easy to remove.
             Plan at least two weeks in advance so you can schedule advertising. If you advertise in the paper for your yard sale, read other sale ads in the paper for ideas on how to pitch you ad.
