Grandparents can be the most caring people in the world. They know what is best for children because they have raised them before. Most grandparents would do anything for their grandchildren simply because they want to see them be successful in the world and not have to feel any pain or sorrow. The selflessness of grandparents occurs in the story, The Ultimate Safari, where a grandmother takes in her grandchildren because their mother left and never returned and their father joined the war. The short story provides the reader with three distinct examples of a grandmother caring for her grandchildren¯ she gave her church clothes to someone in exchange so some dried mealies, she sold her shoes to buy a big plastic container for water, and she left her husband, the children's grandfather, in the elephant grass and continued on the trek to through Kruger Park, to the tent.
             Church is a very popular activity for people who live in third world countries. It gives them a sense of belonging and a will to live when they basically have nothing. For that Sunday Morning when the whole village goes to the church and sings songs and prays to god, it is as if nothing else matters to them. People try so hard to get nice clothes they can go to church in, just so they can look nice in front of God. When the grandmother gave up her clothes so she could feed her grandchildren it shows how dedicated she is towards them. She would give up one of her most important assets to feed her grandchildren, witch she didn't ask to have to take care of. If it was any other person, in this time of need, they would have just looked the other way. Shoes have to be one of the most important pieces of clothing. Sure you can walk without them, but you can not walk through a jungle without them. In The Ultimate Safari the grandmother had to take her, her husband, and her 3 grandchildren through a jungle with no shoes. "Our grandmother is strong but her f...
