Atticus (A Good Father)

The events that take place in this novel are some of action, drama, and scattered comedy. Some people would say that Atticus was a bad father. Some would say he was the greatest. I think he was good for many reasons.
For one, it would have been so cool to be with all the action that fallows Atticus everywhere. Even Scout mentions that she is always excited yet relaxed around Atticus. The things that atticus did were so bold that even his kids were influenced by the actions. You can't really say that it was bad for the kids because in the end it taught them that there dad had a job to do. This job, no matter how unpleasant, had to be done. He wasn't afraid to stand up for what he believed in. He passed this to Jem because whenever Atticus was at the jail watching over Tom and the crowd came over; Jem stepped in to protect his father, no matter what happened.
Second of all, he taught his kids before they went to school. Scout might not have liked it but it was for her own good that he did it. Education isn't a bad thing anyway. I would have loved for someone to have been there to teach me when I was young. I bet I would know a lot more. Scout might not realize the importance of the education her dad gave her because she is still too young and I think it was wrong of her teacher to get onto her for just saying the answers. She'll be glad latter on though.
Atticus also taught them good morals and values. The title of the book gives that away first hand. He says that his father told him that he could shoot all the birds he wanted but that it was a sin to kill a Mockingbird. He simply said that, to kill something so innocent would be like murder. This comes back latter in the story when Tom was shot and killed. He didn't do a thing wrong yet that was enough to convict him. Scout tells this to her father, only proving the relation ship between the two to be strong.
