             His opponent, John F. Kerry, was born in Colorado but holds Boston, Massachusetts as his home. After serving in the Vietnam War, and earning three Purple Hearts on the way, Kerry became the spokesman for the VVAW (Vietnam Veteran Against the War) because he felt the higher-ups in Washington had been making the wrong decisions. He served another tour of duty and graduated from Boston College Law School (1976) to begin his successful career as a prosecutor in Massachusetts. In 1982, John Kerry was elected Lieutenant Governor. Once in office, he organized the nation's Governors to combat the acid rain that was polluting lakes, rivers, and the nation's water supply. Two years later, he was elected to the United States Senate and he has won reelection three times since. He is now serving his fourth term, after winning again in 2002.              So what does all of this tell us about the candidates? Well for one both of them served in the United States military, and both of them have held an elected office.
             However, John Kerry's campaign has made serious accusations, stirring up some controversy (and long forgotten documents), that challenge President Bush's integrity during his service in the military. Some of the documents have people asking questions like: Did Lieutenant Bush refuse a direct order from his commanding officer when he was required to take a physical - if so, then why? Was Lieutenant Bush suspended for failure to perform up to standards? And did Lieutenant Bush, in fact, complete his commitment to the Guard?
