If the main character is metaphorically spoken the blind man, he is the one who walks slowly and never laughs! Later in the story we see that Robert becomes the main charater's seeing-eye dog, when he leads him to let go of his prejudices.
             The author emphasizes Roberts's perceptiveness in l. 105 when the wife asks if Robert has a TV. He answers: "My dear, I have two TVs. I have a color set and a black-and-white thing, and they're always turned on."
