Analyzing Through Color in The Great Gatsby

The specific passage that I chose contains plenty of symbolism with colors. The passage clearly uses colors to symbolize new, old and transitions through out it. the In the first line Nick describes how the area is empty and everything around is "inessential". Here he describes everything through Gatsby's eyes. He declared that the only real thing that is important is Gatsby's love Daisy, and that's all he saw. Nick compares Gatsby's vision to the "Dutch sailor's eyes", because they both had a sense of wonder. Transition from wondering of the new world came to an end.
In the second paragraph Nick discusses the green light at the end of Daisy's East Egg dock was visible from Gatsby's home. It symbolized a guiding light for Gatsby, towards his goal. It also symbolized Daisy's new life, and new wealth. Gatsby's "long way to this blue lawn", with blue symbolizing that he had reached his goal, and he could be calm and at peace now. But blue also symbolize passivity, which shows how Gatsby did not realize that everything was already behind him in the "dark fields".
The third paragraph has Gatsby believing in the green light which stood for growth, faith, and youth to "be receding before us." And this might show that he sees life to be meaningless, because we continue to do what we do but he leaves it there at one morning--, which shows how he lived for Daisy, and she wasn't really his.
