What would a woman react when she heard of her husband's death? Usually She would either passing out or lamenting. However, under the same situation, Louise Mallard, the wife in "The Story of an Hour", feeling joy instead of sorrow. This peculiar recreation is considered unfaithful back in the past. It would be interesting to explore Louise's inner mind and her encountering.
             Louise, a young and fair woman with heart disease, and learned of her
             husband death from her sister and friend. After a short weeping, she went back to her room and locked herself. She would sit on her room and staring outside the window after weeping. She would begin to think about her future, and what would she be doing on the future as a widow. Then she come to realize that from now on, she was a free and independent woman!
             She almost cried out, "Free! Body and soul free!" (Chopin, 424). From my observation, I can roughly comprehend about Louise's marriage. She was living in a marriage where has no joy, no freedom, and no rights which she was definitely controlled by her husband. Louise might be treated unfairly by her husband and even the circumstances around her. But now, that her husband had died, she begin to feel the new life again. She would have the self-confidence to withstand and conquer all the obstacles although she already knew that living in a widow's life might no be easy. Expecting a significant change, Louise was ready to be a new woman and eager to welcome her new life. However, her husband did not die in that accident. Only in an hour, Louise had experienced from the highest peak of happiness to bottom of hopelessness of her life. How could a seriously sick woman withstand this dramatic changes and strikes? Louise was killed by the heart attack. At the end, "When the doctors came they said she had died of heart disease - of joy that kills" (424).
