Some people think that making the transition from high school to college is a simple process. I think that college is more complicated than high school as far as classes and teachers. If I had to give a future college student advice about entering college for the first time I would tell them the following: choose a good major, lose the democratic mindset, and keep all work habits.
             First, current high school seniors and underclassmen should already have in mind a job they would like to do. This way when it is time to decide on a major they would already know what he or she wants to do. Some students enter college thinking that they can take some miscellaneous classes their first year until they figure out what he or she wants to major in, and think that they will graduate on time. These are the students who take five years to graduate with a bachelor's degree. If any future college students have any idea of what they might like to major in, start in with that major now in high school. The reason is that almost all majors involve a sequence of courses that takes most of four years to complete.
             Next, most students tend to think that college is like high school. The university is very different in philosophy from high school. In college, the school will expel him or her from their school if they continue to fail at a consistent rate. What most students must realize is that university is an essentially superior institution. Students are only there because they have met a demanding set of criteria to enter college. Consequently, if a student wants to stay enrolled in college, they must continue to work hard and continue to meet an increasingly demanding set of criteria to continue their education on the college level.
