Lord of the Flies

             There are many different types of allegory that can be associated with the book Lord of the Flies. The main types are religious, historical, and social allegory. However for me the one that was more appropriate for the book was social allegory. There were many examples throughout the book to support this type of allegory. There were many instances in the book when what the boys did and how they went about solving their problems reflected the different types of government throughout the world.
             One example of how social allegory applies to Lord of the Flies would be in the very beginning of the book. When the boys realize their situation, they know they have to take action right away and for some sort of organization for the time they are on the island. So first they elect a leader, someone who would be in charge of all the boys. This applies to our government because we also elect a leader to look up to and run our society. Another example of how social allegory is in the book Lord of the Flies is how they have assembly meetings every so often when they need to discuss what they can do to improve their situation on the island. The quote "We can use this to call the others. Have a meeting" supports this. A different instance from the book that also has social allegory is later in the book when the boys aren't satisfied with Ralph as leader so they take another election to try to vote a new leader. This is much like our government because we get to vote on our leader of the government every four years. Like in the quote "Who thinks Ralph oughtn't to be chief? Hands up whoever wants Ralph as chief." And one more of many other examples from the book of social allegory is when the boys turn the choir into the hunters. I think this reflects in our society because I see it as making jobs for a section of boys that will benefit the others and themselves, like how our government has many different...
