Of Mice and Men

             In the occasion that a person is able to accept a person of a lesser intelligence; and what some may consider a burden, a greater man is born, a man of courage and of type of superiority. In the book Of Mice and Men George and Lennie are some what friends but not by George's choice. He made a promise that he intended to keep even if it seemed like a burden. Lennie's aunt had passed away and asked George if he would take care of Lennie, in which he accepted to take on the task.
             At the beginning of the book George and Lennie are on the hunt for yet another job. They had been ran out of the last town they had work in because of Lennie's fascination with a young woman's dress, he just had to touch it, and he wound up scaring the girl. When they arrived at their new job George made sure that Lennie understood that he had to stay quiet if he wanted this job. Lennie understood because he knew that if they didn't get this job they might not get the farm that they had always dreamed of, in which George had made a promise to Lennie that he could tend the rabbits. As hiring negotiations began, the ranch boss questioned George about Lennie's quiet and slow manner. But George calmly explained that when Lennie was young he had been kicked in the head and reassured the boss even tough he wasn't that bright he was still a good worker. Once they were hired, both George and Lennie went right to work. Later, as they waited for lunch to be served, in sauntered Curley, the ranch owner's son, he was there to look over the new men. After Curley had gone, Candy, the bunkhouse swamper, warned them about the young man. He was very jealous of anyone who got near his wife. Lennie now became agitated and nervous about the job, sensing that Curley would bring them trouble; but with no money to fall back on, the pair was forced to continue working at the ranch.
