I chose this name because Katharine is a modern day saint who lived in Bucks County. St. Katharine Drexel is a good role model-she was rich but gave her life and money to help poor African Americans and Native Americans. She worked hard for her whole life, and she formed an order of sisters to carry on her work.
             Saint Katharine was born on November 26, 1858. She was the second daughter of Francis Drexel and his wife Hannah Langstroth; she had two sisters Elizabeth and Louise. Katharine was born into a wealth family and she learned from her parents that wealth was meant to be shared with others, especially the poor. From her traveling experiences, Katharine saw the plight of suffering Native Americans and African Americans. She became inspired to help those people and Pope Leo XIII suggested she become a missionary to do this work. In February 1891 when Katharine was 33years old she took her vows as a Sister of Mercy and began the religious of the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament. Katharine, and the sisters who joined her, established and ran schools for African American and Native Americans. At the age of 77, Saint Katharine had a severe heart attack that forced her to live the last 20 years of her life in prayerful retirement. She died at the age of 97 on March 3, 1955 in St. Elizabeth Convent. On November 18, 1958 Katharine was beatified by Pope John II in St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. She became a Saint on October 1, 2000 after Robert Gutherman's and Amy Wall's cures from deafness were declared miraculous.
