Beowulf had to address Unferth's jealousy. Because of such envy, Beowulf's pride was placed under attack and his name put to shame. Near the end of the accusations Beowulf had heard his name slandered one to many times and decided to tell of the true sea-ordeal, the struggle, the attacking sea beasts, and horrendous sea-waves. When Beowulf was finished boasting of his sea-challenge he made an assault upon Unferth; "...If you were truly as keen or courageous as you claim to be Grendal would never have got away with...attacks on your king" (Line 590). Beowulf had proven that he could keep his cool under immense pressure while at the same time proving his physical attributes.
