From my fieldwork I can conclude that St.Albans CBD is confined into the city centre of St.Albans between St.Peters street and High Street. There is a large range of shops, which includes department stores, clothes shops, personal services, business services and many more, most of which are a high quality, as measured by the quality scale I conducted. However, there are very few temporary shops and individual food shops (ie. Butchers, greengrocers) My data shows where the highest quality of shopping is and where the largest range of shops are. This is concentrated in the St.Peters street and Maltings shopping centre area.
There is also a high volume of traffic but not so much that it is completely congested. Many people travel through St.Albans for either business or to shop but the traffic can be controlled by traffic lights and roundabouts. There is a vast amount of pedestrians, depending on the time of day. According to my data, lunchtime would appear to be the busiest time. This is probably because working people use the CBD to shop and buy their lunch.
The tallest buildings can be found in the centre of town, this is because of the high competition and high demand for land in the CBD. Away from the centre of the CBD, there are more low rise and residential buildings.

Although most of my results were recorded between 11am and 1pm which is the most busy time of day in St.Albans. It was just over a month before Christmas so there could have also been a few Christmas shoppers around.
For my traffic and pedestrian counts I stood at a certain point for two minutes and counted the amount of vehicles/people that went past. Because of times of day being more or less busy this could not have been a totally fair test. To find shop qualities I rated fifteen different shops out of five for differ...
