The two college roommates started out as best friends, but ended as bitter enemies. The two good friends found living together a bigger task than they had ever imagined. At the end, they were not enemies, but unfriendly, and acted like strangers to each other.
Both friends were roommates and friends of mines; they are Thomas and Jarred. From the beginning, there was an obvious difference. Jarred is American and Thomas is Chinese. Not that their race difference was a problem, but it was the root of their lifestyle and cultured differences. Jarred came from Wellsville, New York, a majority white, middle class neighborhood and Thomas came from the south side of China, upper class neighborhood. Jarred was from a single parent home, being the only child and Thomas was from a home with both parents and one younger sister. In terms of their individual lifestyles, the guys were very different in terms of daily lifestyles with such aspects as religion, music, habits or hobbies, and foods. This became a big problem as the school year progressed and was the root of the many disputes that occurred between them.
Thomas was a more traditional guy, grow up in traditional Chinese home with both parents and younger sister. He was a good student all through his younger years and was always involved in extracurricular activities. He was involved in team sports all through high school, and his parents, family, and friends would all go watch him play. He went to a business high school which was a very different from many other schools in United States. His father was a cook, and his mother was a cashier. He received many different scholarships for his academic excellence and wanted to finish college easily, and quickly and he came to Alfred because he loved the village life.
Jarred was a liberal person. He was definitely different in terms of physical appearance. He was a big, white, and strong. His home was in a poor, black neighborho...
