"Here we can brag and bluster and blather and almost like a comic book character you could invent, Captain Bombast, pull the cape around the shoulders and shout the magic words, 'Get him,' And rise about if all in a blast of hot air." (Alan K. Simpson) Every comic book is the same old thing, and has been since the beginning of time. The "hero" comes flying down at the right moment, fights away the bad guy, and gets the girl of his dreams. In my opinion, comics are made up for men to feel better about themselves. It shows how they can do things with out help, and illustrates women as being vulnerable. World Book Dictionary has a different idea of a hero, "A man or boy admired for his bravery, great deeds, or noble qualities." Are these real definitions of a hero? After further pondering, I have concluded that no book, person, nor internet sight can tell one what a hero really is; it can only be determined on what one believes.
             William Golding, author of Lord of the flies, clearly believes that all humans are evil. One may look as though they are pure hearted, but when left alone, can do many hateful things. While reading this novel, Golding's point of view constantly crossed my mind. I have always been one to trust most everyone, and strongly believed there was a good side to everyone. Although Lord of the Flies is somewhat believable, and yet still very disturbing, I still look for the good in all people. Everyone has the power to be a hero, one just has to step outside of their box, and do all he/she can do. Although in this story, there are a number of different children that I'd call a hero, Ralph is the best role model in it. He takes control, stood his ground, and cared for others.
