Legalized Gambling

             For the last few years, I can remember their being a debate on television and even in my own home about the effects of legalized gambling on our economy. I can see the pros and cons that legalized gambling would have on many state governments, not just Kentucky's. My personal opinion is that I am in opposition of legalizing gambling. I think that legalized gambling can cause people to file bankruptcy, can cause someone to become addicted, and can even contribute to divorce. Even though there is revenue for legalized gambling, I believe that the overall effect of legalizing gambling will eventually ruin the lives of the ones that become addicted and also ruin their family's lives.
             On the other hand, I do understand why there have been so many debates over wanting a casino in Kentucky. Legalized gambling can be used in positive ways. The revenue from gambling is distributed back into the states government. It is normally spent in different ways, but a majority of the revenue is spent on Kentucky's education system. The only legalized gambling that the state of Kentucky has now is in the form of our state lottery, and our states calling card, the popular horse racing. I think that if we would legalize gambling in Kentucky that we would able to bring in more tourists. Many people travel over the bridge to Caesar's to gamble just for some weekend enjoyment. If only there was a riverboat in Kentucky, that way if gamblers chose to use that as entertainment or for an addiction purpose at least the revenue would come back into our own state.
             Instead, it is being put to use by our neighbor's across the river.
