The air movement in a hurricane can be compared to the water movement in a hose. The air with more pressure moves to a place where there is less pressure, and as it is rising, it brings along moisture. As the air rises to reach a place where there is low pressure, it gets cooled. The cooling of the air causes the air to condense into tiny water drops that form clouds. When the clouds cool, it gives off energy in the form of heat. There are many parts of a hurricane because they are such complex storms. The eye of the hurricane contains the least amount of pressure, and it is the calmest part of the storm. (Lauber, 20) The air inside the column rises, bringing in more air through the bottom, and the storm will start to grow stronger and stronger. The air that is being brought in through the bottom does not move in a straight linear motion. Because the earth rotates, the path that the air travels is curved. Underneath the eye of the storm, the ocean water is lifted in the shape of a dome. The eye of the storm can be as wide as ten miles across depending on how strong the storm is.
