'How Do The Poets Lives Influence Their View
             'London', written by William Blake is an example of Blake's opinions of the society in the city. He recognised religious and political oppression and the lives of the poor. Blake was verging on poverty at some points of his lifetime because his work was not selling because they were not being recognised by the public. This could have influenced him to make reference to the poor in his poems because he knew what it would be like. The public thought he was mad because of his ideas of the society they lived in.
             William Wordsworth wrote 'Composed upon Westminster Bridge'. The poem is more light-hearted compared to Blake's poem, possibly because Wordsworth had a different way of life compared to Blake. Wordsworth did not live in London, but was born and grew up in Cockermouth, Cumberland, in the Lake District.
             In 'London', Blake writes, "I wander thro' each charter'd street, near where the charter'd Thames does flow." This shows Blake's awareness of industrialisation in London, and how it restricted the atmosphere and the resulting effects of oppression and poverty. Blake lived in London all his life, unlike Wordsworth and so he recognised the change of atmosphere and his view of the city is probably more restricted because he see's the city day in, day out.
             When Wordsworth was older, he moved to Somerset to stay with his sister whom he was separated from when he was younger. Wordsworth was influenced by another poet who lived nearby to where he moved to in Somerset. His name was Samuel Coleridge. They both published some work together. Wordsworth was in close contact with nature in Somerset, which influenced his poetry, as evident in 'Westminster Bridge' where it says "Open unto the fields and to the sky, all bright and glittering in the smokeless ai
