e attack. The second phase, which is known as the acute battering incident, is when the batterer starts beating the woman in order to teach her a lesson. This phase is usually the most violent stage. The batterer does not stop beating the woman until he feels that he has taught her a lesson. After this phase is over the woman does not seek medical attention because she tries not to feel the pain or she may feel that her scars are not as bad as they seem. Phase two is usually the shortest phase lasting anywhere from a few hours to two days. The last phase is the calm, loving phase. In this phase the batterer is usually sorry for what he has done to his victim. It is during this phase that the batterer manipulates the victim to believing that he will not hurt her again (Moore 65-70).
