Manic-Depressive Illness and Creativity

This article was an interesting article to read. Everyone has heard that all creative poets are "psycho." This fact has been proven to some extent; the author states that many creative people have some form of depression or another. This disorder may be what causes these creative people to be so creative.
One exciting thing was that a lot of times, people would generalize all creative people to have depression, but the author states that is just a generalization. Although a lot of creative people do have some form of depression, not all of them do. So are we as a society saying that all of our accomplished, sometimes moody, and eccentric people all have some form of depression. I agree with the author's saying that we should not jump to conclusions because some of the creative people out there has a record of depression.
Also the author is biased and only looks at her point of view. She has a ton of studies to back up the fact that most creative people do have some form of depression. She not only took the results of her studies, but she also showed the results of her colleagues. It might be kind of hard to find evidence against her point.
Another thing that I found to be interesting was that hypomanics are more likely to use alliterations when they speak. They are better at naming synonyms and can do those types of things faster than the "normal" people. They have a completely different cognitive state than what the everyday person does. The author states that this may be what makes them creative. Scientists are not really sure why their mental conditions are altered but hope to find out in the near future. I found it excellent how complex their minds can be. The fact that they can speak in alliterations without really thinking about it is fantastic. That is what makes them unique. Every person in the world is fantastic, and if creative people are hypomanic, shouldn't we accept that. They can keep the disorder under control...
