This paper will attempt to uncover, and possibly resolve, problems currently being experienced at Faith Community Hospital. The Chief Executive Officer of the hospital is faced with many challenges in his present operating environment. Several of these challenges can be attributed to those involved with the hospital at many different levels. Each of these levels seems to have differing interpretations of what the mission of the hospital actually is. The mission statement of the Faith Community Hospital states:
             "With the foundation and commitment of our spiritual heritage and values, our mission is to promote the health and well-being of the people in the communities we serve through a comprehensive continuum of services provided in collaboration with the partners who share the same vision and values."
             While this mission statement seems to be straightforward for most, it might leave others confused. The hospital appears to be struggling from organizational and communication problems. The mission statement is not being acknowledged possibly because of misinterpretation or possibly refusal to acknowledge its importance. Staff members seem to do what they believe is necessary without any adherence to written protocol. The objectives of one staff member may not be the objectives of the other staff members. This creates an unstable and chaotic environment. The lines of communication between the Board of Directors, staff, patients, and family members are broken down to the point that they barely exist.
             Another problem the hospital is faced with deals with the differing views of how to implement the written mission statement within the medical environment, and the conflict of views among different groups.
