             CIBC was also involved in a transaction known as Marlin 2, which was related to Enron's acquisition of a British water company. The bank was part of a group of about a dozen financial institutions that participated in a $915-million financing for the transaction in 2001. All of the transactions CIBC and other banks were involved in were used by Enron to inflate its profits and hide debts. Mr. Batson has concluded that many of the transactions Enron classified as asset sales were in fact cleverly disguised loans.
