lo Park was an improvement on the telephone. Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone in 1876 but, it could not operate over distances of more than 2 to 3 miles. After hundreds of experiments, Edison improved the telephone to such an extent that it could carry speech clearly over almost unlimited distances. In 1878 Edison made a phone call from New York City to Philadelphia a distance of 107 miles.
