I get nervous every time I hear this noise from my pager wondering what kind of call this would be. I pick up the red phone and ask the police where the location is. My crew members gather at the building and hop into the ambulance. Shortly I get car sick because of my chief's crazy driving skill with constant horning.
Our feet set on fire as soon as we get to the scene. I am in charge of observing patient's information. My other job is to do little things since I am a novice. Like carrying the patient to the ambulance, carrying the oxygen tank, or do whatever the medics say. I watch them taking care of the patient and learn little by little. Once on the way to the hospital, the medic told me his great experiences when he was an emergency medical technician. And he taught me how to use stethoscope. It was the coolest thing in the world. I actually could hear the heart beat and get the patient's pulse.
The old lady had a severe heart attack. So we quickly brought her into the ambulance and medic produced the treatments to her. I was scared of her heath, because 3 days before that night, someone has gone to the place where people can rest in peace. Medic gave her few shots but all of a sudden, she stopped breathing. He put this long airway into her nostril to give her oxygen. She started coughing heavily with blood. I didn't know what to do. He told me to hold the airways. I couldn't concentrate what I was doing. I was just wandering and hoping to get some fresh air. But I tried to encourage myself and really focus on her. I said to myself I can do it.
At last, we arrived at the hospital and the doctor asked me about her information. Once we transport the patient to the hospital, our job is done. The doctors take over the job to save one precious breath. When I got back to the building, I was so exhausted and couldn't stop thinking about the old lady. I was wondering if she is alright.
