Albert Camus writes The Guest an extraordinary work of art. The Guest is written in the form of describing how different cultures are encountered with each other. This story starts off with the introduction of the schoolmaster and then he is later known as Daru. The Guest portrays the colorful description of Daru and his experience with an Arab prisoner who had been left with him to care for. As the story went on out of the dark the schoolteacher and friend to Daru, Balducci told him that he had to take the prisoner and assist him to his intentions of travel. To give a background of Daru, he was born in Algeria and also raised there. By the European descent he inherited he found that it was impossible to take sides in the revolt.
             This story also shows how Daru is a existentialism; meaning of that is he firmly believes that each person is free to make moral choices that define and give meaning to his or her life. Now the Arab was accused of killing his cousin in a family squabble, but this is not a case that is tried in the French court system. This is a case that can only and mainly be solved by the family members involved. However, this description on existentialism is lurid. In this case Daru feels that the prisoner is the one who has and should make the choices of what should happen, no one else should not do it for him. Daru also feels that this playing as a sort of God; he says by him taking the prisoner to Tinquit (city where police are awaiting for the arrival of the prisoner) he just does not want to interfere. In order for Daru to take him to this city he must sign the release paper, of which he do not want to do. Due to the fact he really do not want to get involved with the situation no more than what he has already done.
