In the play, A Streetcar Named Desire, Blanche is a self-conscious flirt who loves clothes and jewelry. Blanche is self-conscious because she seems to only care about herself. She is a flirt because every man she meets she tries to seduce. Blanche also adores apparel and jewelry because she is so concerned about her appearance.
             First, Blanche thinks only about herself. The only remarks that she does make are sinister ones. When talking with her sister, Blanche says, "You haven't said a word about my appearance"(Scene I, Pg. 21). This statement of Blanche's is very rude and forward. Another time, Blanche is selfish and remarks sourly towards Stella. They are talking and Blanche says, "I want you to look at my figure! You know I haven't out on one ounce in ten years, Stella? I weigh what I weighed the summer you left Belle Reve. The summer Dad died and you left us...."(Scene I, Pg. 22). This little spiel of Blanche's isn't very loving.
             Second, Blanche is a huge flirt. She is known to flirt and even more. When meeting Stanley, Blanche's sister's husband, for the first time, Blanche comes on to Stanley; "I cannot imagine any witch of a woman casting a spell over you....You're simple, straightforward and honest, a little bit on the primitive side I should think....That was why, when you walked in here last night, I said to my self-'My sister has married a man!'"(Scene II, Pg. 39-40). By saying this Blanche was trying to seduce her sister's husband. Once again, Blanche seems to show her very friendly character towards young man who is collecting money for The Evening Star, the newspaper; "Cherry!...You make my mouth water....Young man! Young, young, young man! Has anyone ever told you that you look like a young Prince out of the Arabian Nights? Well, you do, honey lamb! Come here. I want to kiss you, just on
