killing fields

Fear is an invisible thought in everyone's mind that once it builds its roots, it takes over someone's actions and it can never be destroyed, but it can be stopped from dominating other thoughts. For example, during a scene in the movie A Midnight Clear, the soldier nicknamed Mother, starts running crazily from the squad's trench to a freezing lake surrounded by snow. Mother and all soldiers in the squad had experienced the worst days of their lives while patrolling and trying to spy on their country's enemy, which makes it their enemy, too. However, Mother knew that one side was more threatening than the other was. Major Griffin was an evil person, who always put their squad in the front line. His commands could never be opposed. On the other side, there were the Nazis, who would never make peace with the American soldiers. Fear made them believe that overthrowing their own immoral Major is a wrong action, unlike knowing your last day of your life when fighting the enemy is the right action. For example, before the soldiers are assigned into a new location to keep track of the enemy's movement, Major Griffin informs them that in this mission they have already lost a large squad. The soldiers are shocked by the fact that a whole squad of twelve or more members has vanished into the hills covered with snow. They are terribly afraid that the same thing might happen to them, but they do not stand against it because fear tells them not to. However, some of them will finally understand the complicated world around them because they are young and they imagine war as the one place where good and brave soldiers always end up as heroes of the war and overthrow the enemy and the immorally bad soldiers die as losers. By accepting this idea all along, the soldiers do not know that they are feeding their fear and helping it grow into their brains, instead of fighting against it.
